November Update

The Sandhills Care Center is now Open for Business.

SCC received its Skilled Nursing Home License on November 2, 2016.  SCC has started accepting resident admissions.  During the initial opening phase, SCC hopes to admit 2-3 residents each week until capacity is reached at 46 residents.

A professional staff was hired in October in anticipation of receiving the license.  Many staff who previously worked at the facility have been rehired.  SCC is fortunate to already have experienced and caring staff.  Everyone worked very hard in preparation for opening and providing the best care possible for new residents.  SCC will continue to hire additional positions as resident census increases over the next few months.

This is an exciting time for the community.  Ainsworth/Brown County elders now living in other nursing facilities can now return to their home to be close to their family and loved ones.  SCC will also provide additional employment opportunities for the community and surrounding area.

Please contact SCC if you or someone you know may need elder care.  SCC staff will be happy to assist you.

The Ainsworth Brown County Care Center Interlocal Board is the owner of the Sandhills Care Center facility located at 143 N Fullerton.  The transfer of the building from previous owners was effective June 7, 2016.  The Interlocal Board immediately started planning to reopen the  facility.

On June 7 2016, Rural Health Development, Inc. (RHD) was hired by the Interlocal Board to manage the facility after it reopens.  A new administrator – Stephanie Rucker from Gordon, NE was hired by RHD with input from the Interlocal Board.  Stephanie started July 1, 2016 and now lives in Ainsworth.

The Interlocal Board Renovation committee and Stephanie coordinated the needed renovation and maintenance work to reopen the facility.  The community really “stepped up to the plate” to help with the renovation efforts.

A special “Thank You” to everyone who helped get the building ready for admissions – Stephanie Rucker

On September 13, 2016, the State Fire Marshall’s Office issued a Certificate of Occupancy on which meant the building was safe and ready for resident admissions.

On November 2, 2016, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Service staff visited the facility to complete the Skilled Nursing Home Licensing Process.  The license was issued on the day of their visit.  The license means that SCC has the processes and staff in place to provide elder care.

Starting in November, 2016, SCC plans to admit 2-3 residents per week.  The facility will be licensed to care for up to 46 residents.

The Interlocal Board considers the reopening of SCC as a stepping stone to the future that will lead to a transfer of elders into a new Skilled Nursing Facility in Ainsworth.  For more information about the new facility, please read below.
